How to Make Healthy Desserts with Essential Oils
They say 9 out of 10 people love chocolate! 🍫
That’s no surprise is it – it’s not called “the love drug” for no reason, inducing similar feelings to those that occur when one is in love! So, you guessed it – I’m definitely one of the 9 who loves chocolate and my search for a healthy treat containing chocolate is not an easy one.
Well, of course it isn't if you don’t know where to look, but I was determined to find something with chocolate that would also be healthy without sacrificing that delicious taste that we all crave! 😋
As a 29 year old Greek woman, I definitely did not take after my mother’s or my grandmother’s baking skills, and instead left my food desires to the people who simply know how to bake yummy things. I mean what’s the point of trying to do something I’m not good at when someone else can already do it well. Actually, I’m sure there is, but for this situation I got together with a friend with years of experience in cooking. 👩🏼🍳
Find the best of what you like in other recipes and make your own
A friend of mine loves Instagram and is always looking for the latest recipes and she found someone who makes delicious treats with healthy and natural ingredients, so she offered to show me how simple it would be to make treats like this. Since getting back into boxing and with summer approaching, I thought about the importance of having protein daily, so I asked my friend if we could add my protein powder to the recipe and she said it wouldn’t be a problem! 👌🏼
Essential oils do a lot more than just smell nice
I’ve been using essential oils for nearly two years now, and I never realised how powerful they really were until I learnt that they have been used since over 5,000 years ago from the Ancient Egyptian times, and their properties are very diverse and powerful, and best of all – they come from plants! So I’ve used them on my body and also around the house, but over the last few months I’ve been exposed to their uses in both baking and cooking! 🌿
It was a fun experiment for us to go shopping and look at organic ingredients that we needed and I was surprised at how very little ingredients were required to make the treats!! Two of the key ingredients we used were organic clove essential oil and cinnamon bark essential oil.
The reason they have to be organic is because essential oils are so concentrated, if there are any pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals on the plants which the oils come from, then you will be exposed to a concentrated dose of those chemicals! 🚫
When it's quick to make, you're more likely to do it!
I couldn’t believe that within 10 minutes the muffins were already in the oven baking and we were making the chocolate (cacao) topping, which was definitely required to complete our perfect treat. We only used a little cacao powder to cover all the muffins, which is obviously why we didn’t feel guilty eating it! 😁
I was amazed and proud of how quickly we finished and of course, how delicious the muffins were! Not to mention how incredible they looked in the photos, as you can see for yourself! That little dose of chocolate truly hit the spot and the nutty taste along with the flavours from the oils we added was a very pleasant sensation. 💖
I’m looking forward to the diverse range of flavours we can play with and also many more baking adventures now that I understand how simple & easy it can be!
